Professional Photographer Magazine

can i hear a whoo whoo? this month’s issue of Photographer had a little feature on me in it. :) okay, God, if you are listening, thank you!

back from tampa!

It was amazing, inspiring and motivating. The best of the best. The creme de la creme.  I am sponge for learning from everyone I come into contact with and I definitely did learn so much from all the photographers who’s workshop/seminar I attended this year. It was fabulous. And I’m beyond excited that my workshop went extremely well, inspite of my nausea days before. I was very nervous about speaking in front a large group, but I felt that I did it pretty comfortably after a minute or two. My goal for my workshop was to teach photographers the importance of effective graphic design, but also to show them how someone without a natural talent for design, can design quickly and effectively. And it worked. I drove the point home, and the light bulbls were going off. Sweet success. Huge thanks to all the photogs that attended my workshop and to those who made the convention so successful this year. I can’t wait to for next year already!!

Next month (Feb 4th & 5th) I’ll be teaching more in depth about design, but also go into specifics about package design with Lena Hyde at her swanky loft studio in West Palm Beach Florida. I can’t wait for that. 90 minutes in Tampa, versus a full day of all things design will be very helpful indeed. :) http://jellyfingers.com/registration.pdf we still have just a few spots left for the workshop.

so much and so little time…

Dear Blog,

It’s been a while since I’ve filled you in on all the winter happenings hasn’t it? December 2007 will go down as one of the biggest whirlwind months in the history of my life. Fo’ sho’. As soon as I got home from Paris, 2 days later we were off for a planned vacation in Fiji where we enjoyed 2 weeks of pure rest and relaxation. Of course I did bring my trusted HP companion; Harry the laptop, with me to work on my presentation for DWF Tampa.

Speaking of which, DWF Tampa is this week! Holy guacamole. Where does the time go. It’s like someone took a clock and just thew it out the window. (comedic drum roll, thank you) Sunday I’m scheduled for my seminar on graphic design. I’m really looking forward to it. I’m getting out of Tahoe in what appears to be, just in the nick of time. According to WinterStormWatch 2008, the storm of the century is predicted to hit our Sierra Nevada mountains Friday. I’m heading down the hill Thursday afternoon to avoid the snow & wind advisorys before they take effect. 6″ of snow per hour is a heavy prediction, where I live we’ll likely see upwards to 10 feet of snow in a day.  So for those of you who love to ski & board, next week is going to be powdery delicious! No snow blowing or shoveling decks for me. Whooopee!! I’ll just enjoy some of the Florida sun while the storm passes. Perfect timing. Thanks God. You’re the best. Really.

When I get back from this trip to Tampa, I’ll post some eye candy from our trip to Fiji as well as some even better pictures from our New Years Eve Party we hosted this year. This we celebrated at home with our friends. The theme was ”come as your favorite rockstar” complete with a guitar hero rock-a-thon. Let’s just say I have some really good blackmail on lots of people. The pictures are a spectacle.

Preface: If you have an addiction prone prone personality, then you should not play guitar hero. For the record, I am a non-smoker, non-alcoholic, and never done drugs before in my entire life. Yet I cannot stop dreaming about red, green, yellow blue and orange notes. I hear songs on the radio and wonder how I could get them in my Guitar Hero III game. I can almost hear my fingers  pushing those plastic buttons seamlessly to new and more difficult songs. I knew I might have a problem when I couldn’t recall the last time I saw the sun. I think it might have been somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 days, but I wasn’t really counting. To my credit, I did  beat Lou, the devil. I finished him and it was worth a 2 day fast. I feel my own story can best be expressed in the animated imagery of South Park, the episode appropriately titled, “Heroin Hero” it started off innocent enough, until I was powerless to control myself from putting down the les charles.

it’s a lovely site indeed.

Rangefinder Magazine

A lovely surprise arrived in the mail today. I am always excited to read all the fabulous articles in Rangefinder. It’s any photographer’s dream to be recognized in a professional journal of this magnitude. In this particular issue of Rangefinder, they wanted to highlight what the unique benefits have been for me since I won the Buzz Award earlier this year. It was fun to see it in print like this. Huge thanks to Mitche Graf for putting that together so quickly!

Great Article

I’m so excited. I am featured in the current issue of Design Aglow magazine. It’s an excellent resource for photographers. I’m so honored to be a part of it. There are some wonderful articles in this edition, including both amazing photographers I am doing workshops with, Lena Hyde and Laura Novak. Thank you Design Aglow, I love everything you guys do.

Goodies for me!

Tim, at Blossom Publishing is the man. They published my materials, which were pretty customized little packages. Complete with drilling, corner rounding, and book binding screw posts. They were delivered yesterday and I couldn’t wait to open them. As promised Tim, Erin snapped these for me the second they were delivered! Now I just wished that I had worn something cute and done my hair! LOL

:)

Vacation with the Hoffarth’s

Earlier this month, my hubby and I went to Arizona for a quick weekend visit to see my brother, his wife and son, and my cousin and his wife. My cousin, Brent, leaves for Iraq later next month so we wanted to have a get together before he left on a 6 month tour of duty.  My sister-in-law, Amy snapped this picture. Would this make a fantastic Christmas card?

Every Sunday night our neighborhood becomes the Hometown Buffet for our local bears. It’s always fun to watch them, but they do make quite a mess out of our garbage. Well last night, I startled a bear as she was digging in to some leftover tri-tip and hamburger meat. She spooked, and climbed the tree just next to the deck at our upstairs bedroom. At 400 pounds this bear can still climb a tree in less than 4 seconds. It’s amazing to see how quick and agile these animals really are. Even more spectacular, I found her 3 cubs had also climbed the tree, and were suspended just above her. Her cubs were born this spring and enjoyed a dining on some leftovers with mom. She didn’t like that I was so close to her and her cubs, she would huff and growl at me, but I could not help myself, I had to take these pictures of her and the brood. They were about 5 feet away from me.  She eventually got used to me being there and became much more relaxed around me. They eventually came down from the tree and continued their quest for food while I looked on. My very own bear diary   :) I will have to document their growth this summer since they will come back every Sunday to eat.

New Family Member

I’d like to welcome our newest member of the Studio staff, the lovely Mrs. Mikayla Grant :)  Mikayla is the studio’s Production Manager and will be more than capable of handling many of your requests. Mikayla is an incredibly energetic and creative person, and I can’t wait for you to have an opportunity to work with her.
